Meet the Physios behind the product…

Jayne Duffy MSc and Rachael Smith MSc (left to right), are chartered physiotherapists who have over 50 years combined clinical experience in the NHS – so know what it’s like in the real world. This dynamic duo (who have also developed the Calderdale Framework), in collaboration with engineers eXyo Design Ltd, drew upon their extensive theraputic knowledge to create the Balance Active.

Meet the Engineers behind the product…

Driven by a passion for improving lives through engineering design, eXyo Design Ltd , was founded by three Sheffield graduates. Established in 2015 and operating full-time since 2018, the team is based in the heart of Sheffield’s city centre at Sheaf Studios, South Yorkshire (S1 1DJ).

Jonathan Charlesworth

MEng – Cofounder / director

Jonathan is eXyo’s Manufacturing lead calling upon 10 years’ experience in the industry (four years, Rolls Royce/six years, eXyo). Applying manufacturing excellence gained from his time spent in the Aerospace and Nuclear sectors, Jonathan manages eXyo’s: Quality Management System, inhouse prototyping/ testing capability, technical package development process and supply chain strategy; turning eXyo’s designs into production ready products.

Andrew Morgan

MEng – Cofounder / director

Andrew is eXyo’s Design lead, who has been developing and bringing rehabilitation products to market since 2014. Andrew’s responsibilities also include business development and branding. Most recently, Andrew led eXyo to win Innovate UK funding for, and successfully deliver, projects worth more than half a million pounds, including SMART and Biomedical Catalyst grants.

Christopher Hughes

MEng  – Cofounder / director

Christopher is eXyo’s Engagement/Regulatory lead, who has directed/implemented engagement strategies alongside clinical development at Exyo for 10 years. Christopher has delivered two clinical evaluations and medical device UKCA-marks since Brexit and is point-of-contact for BA’s engagement groups that engage over 100 patients/clinicians from across the UK from all walks of life, in all of Exyo’s development processes. Christopher is also the authorised representative for BA.
